Your Next Big Step
What You'll Get Inside
Already a natural at beginner Jazz drumming?
#1 Jazz Drum Patterns
One of the hardest things about Jazz drumming is independence. Getting your limbs to cooperate in musical ways is like untangling headphones from your pocket. In this course, I’ll give you 8 advanced coordination patterns that’ll rewire your brain in the best way possible.
We’re talking the kind of independence you hear from Tony Williams or Brian Blade. Flowing, natural, and musical. After working through these, you’ll sit at your kit and feel like you’ve got four musicians living inside you.
#2 Afro-Cuban Latin Drumming
If you’re serious about Jazz, you have to know Latin grooves. It’s part of the job. Here we’ll get into Mozambique, Mambo, and Bembé, the heavy hitters of Latin drumming that show up all the time in Jazz tunes.
These aren’t just cool grooves, they’ll expand your feel and give you a new rhythmic “engine” for your playing. You’ll come out of this course hearing your playing in totally new ways. It’s like adding a second language to your Jazz drumming vocabulary.
#3 Brazilian Drumming
Since the 1960s, Brazilian music has been glued to Jazz. There’s nothing like the smooth sway of a Bossa Nova or the drive of a Samba. In this course, we’ll dive into the 6 most important Bossa and Samba rhythms, plus dozens of authentic grooves.
You’ll also pick up Brazilian percussion ideas to spice up your kit playing. Once you’ve got these under your sticks, you’ll sit in with a band and instantly have that laid-back and powerful Brazilian flavor everyone loves.
#4 Jazz Drum Fills
Forget boring drum licks, Jazz fills are about phrases that sing. In this course, I’ll show you over 30 sticking patterns and how to flip them into endless fills. You’ll learn how to use them around the kit in ways that sound natural, musical, and never stale.
After this one, you’ll never run out of ideas for fills. Trading fours, dropping into a chorus, or building a solo. You’ll always have something fresh to say.
#5 Jazz Drum Soloing
This one’s a game changer. We’ll go deep into the five most common ways drummers solo in Jazz: trading fours, trading eights, chorus solos, vamp solos, and open solos.
I’ll break down how to think about soloing so you’re never left wondering, “What do I play here?” Instead, you’ll walk into every solo with confidence and creativity. Pair this with the fills course, and you’ll have more ideas than you can imagine.
#6 Fast Jazz Ride Cymbal
Fast Swing can feel like your arm is going to fall off after one chorus. But it doesn’t have to be that way. In this course, I’ll show you the exact technique I use to play blazing tempos while staying totally relaxed.
This is one of those “once you get it, you get it forever” kind of courses. You’ll finally be able to sit in on fast tempos without worrying, and it’ll free up your whole body to make music instead of fighting the ride cymbal.
#7 Jazz Drumming Hi-Hat
The hi-hat isn’t just for 2 and 4, it’s a whole other voice on the kit. Max Roach and Buddy Rich made the hi-hats sing, and you can too. In this course, I’ll show you how to play in “2,” how to fan the hats, and five killer fill patterns that’ll make your hi-hat playing shine.
It’s a simple way to add a ton of dimension to your drumming. After this, you’ll stop treating the hi-hat like an accessory and start treating it like one of your main instruments.
#8 Reading Drum Sheet Music
Reading charts doesn’t have to be scary. This course makes it simple. I’ll walk you through the symbols, how to set up kicks, handle intros, endings, and changing feels. You’ll also learn how to lock in with big band figures and never get lost.
If you’ve ever panicked when someone dropped a chart on your music stand, this course will fix that. Afterward, you’ll walk into a rehearsal, glance at the chart, and know exactly what to do.
